Clomid question confused about length of cycle?

anybody had this happen to them. On first month of clomid (no periods at all) took it 12th nov (after taking provera to start periods). i am also on chinese herbs to get my periods back. Did not have a period after taking it until the 6th January that a 56 day cycle. Do you think that the clomid did not work and my period just kicked in ater taking the herbs. Or was it just the clomid giving me and extra long cycle. ??? Clomid has kick started my periods before but i miscarriage 3 times. Now 40 and thinking time is running out although my doctor keeps telling me lots of people have heir first in their forties.
