Is there any nonprescription heartworms prevention medicine available out there?

My Vet overpriced me on heartworms prevention medication and won't give me the written prescription so I can get it online (because he wouldn't recommend getting medicine online). Is there anyway I can get nonprescription heartworm medication for my pet?
